Grand Valley Highway 1 Reverse Standard presents a fluid, momentum-based challenge. Master its rapid direction changes and the critical hairpin for optimal lap times.

Setup Focus

  • Stiffer suspension to handle the quick direction changes.
  • Sufficient downforce for stability in the high-speed sections.
  • Brake bias adjustment to manage braking into the hairpin.

The Opening Sweep

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

Carry good speed through here. Smooth inputs are key to maintaining momentum. Look far ahead to guide the car. Avoid touching the inside kerb too early as it can unsettle the car.

Apex Strategy

Late apex, kissing the outside kerb on exit.

2

The Esses Complex

Series of quick left-right-left turns

Gear 2nd/3rd

The Esses Complex

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

This section demands precision and quick steering. Focus on a fluid line, minimizing steering input changes. Brake very lightly or not at all if possible, using the car's momentum. Aim to get a good run onto the short straight after.

Apex Strategy

Focus on hitting the apexes of the first two corners to set up for the third, which requires a slightly later apex to straighten for the next straight.

3

The Hairpin and Chicane

Tight hairpin followed by a fast chicane

Gear 1st for hairpin, 2nd for chicane

The Hairpin and Chicane

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

Brake firmly for the hairpin, trail brake to rotate the car, and get on the power early. Be mindful of the kerbs on the exit of the hairpin. The chicane requires a sharp flick of the wheel; be aggressive but controlled to carry speed through.

Apex Strategy

Late apex on the hairpin to maximize exit speed. For the chicane, aim for the first apex, then a quick turn to the second apex to straighten for the final corner.

Critical Risks

Common mistakes at this circuit

  • Exiting the hairpin too wide can lead to a spin on the kerbs.
  • Overdriving the Esses can lead to understeer or snap oversteer on exit.
  • The final corner is deceptively fast and can catch drivers out if they brake too late or turn in too early.
