Grand Valley Highway 1 is an advanced 5.09km circuit demanding smooth, flowing driving and precise throttle control. Maintaining momentum through its 13 corners, especially high-speed sections, is paramount for optimal performance.

Setup Focus

  • Aerodynamics: A balanced aero setup is vital for stability through the high-speed Esses and the long sweeping corners. Prioritize downforce for grip without sacrificing too much top-end speed.
  • Brake Balance: A slightly front-biased brake balance can help with stability under heavy braking into Turn 1 and the final chicane, but be mindful of front wheel lock-up.
  • Suspension: A relatively stiff but compliant suspension setup will aid in quick direction changes through the Esses and provide stability over the track's elevation changes.
  • Differential: A higher acceleration sensitivity on the LSD will help get power down efficiently out of the slower corners like Turn 1 and the final chicane, crucial for lap time.

Corner Analysis

Turn 1 Hairpin

Tight 90-degree left hairpin

Turn 1 Hairpin

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

Heavy braking from the long main straight. Aim for a late apex to maximize exit speed onto the subsequent high-speed section. Trail brake deep into the corner, then smoothly apply throttle as you unwind the wheel.

Apex Strategy

Late apex, just past the geometric center of the corner, allowing for a wide exit.

2

The Esses (Turns 2-4)

High-speed left-right-left S-curves

Gear 4th-5th

The Esses (Turns 2-4)

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

This section requires commitment and precise steering inputs. Maintain high speed through the first left, then quickly transition to the right, using the kerbs if necessary but avoid unsettling the car. Smooth throttle application is key to maintain momentum without losing traction.

Apex Strategy

Early apex for the first left, then a mid-apex for the right, setting up for a late apex on the final left to open up the exit.

3

Tunnel Exit Blind Right (Turn 8)

Blind, decreasing radius right-hander

Gear 3rd

Tunnel Exit Blind Right (Turn 8)

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

A very tricky corner. Brake before entering the tunnel, then carry speed through. The exit is blind and often catches drivers out. Aim to hug the inside kerb on entry, then be patient with the throttle as the corner tightens, avoiding oversteer. Look for the track edge to open up.

Apex Strategy

Mid-to-late apex, as the corner tightens. Be prepared to adjust your line based on the car's balance.

4

Final Uphill Chicane (Turns 12-13)

Left-right chicane leading to uphill straight

Gear 3rd

Final Uphill Chicane (Turns 12-13)

VIDEO COMING SOON

Technique

Crucial for a good lap time as it leads onto the long uphill main straight. Brake firmly for the left entry, cutting the kerb if possible without losing stability. Quickly transition to the right, aiming for a strong exit. Focus on getting the power down early and smoothly for maximum straight-line speed.

Apex Strategy

Early apex for the left, then a late apex for the right to maximize exit speed.

Critical Risks

Common mistakes at this circuit

  • Over-committing in the high-speed Esses can lead to loss of control or running wide into the gravel.
  • The blind exit of the tunnel corner is a common place for spins or contact if not approached cautiously.
  • Heavy braking into Turn 1 and the final chicane can lead to lock-ups if brake balance isn't optimized or technique is rushed.
  • Maintaining tire temperature and avoiding overheating, especially on the longer 10-lap race, is crucial due to the high-speed nature and sustained cornering.
